Hi

I missed out on the recent Rutland offer, they have no stock until April

Is there anywhere else in the UK or can u suggest an alternative product ?

I know Matt has a vested interest but I don't and I use it all the time in pretty damp conditions and it works brilliantly.

Indeed...Matt gave me a sample pot of the VCI Pots at the YOKB last May (cleverer!) and I put it in my chisel drawer and it still appears to be working fine...

The year before I had a huge problem in the winter.

So...highly recommended...and with the sale prices that WSH has at the moment...it's a bit of a no-brainer.

Hi Richard

it stands for Volitile Corrosion Inhibitor....

Bloody excellent stuff.

If you remember way back when you could buy beautiful little tools in boxes....like this...

...they came wrapped in brown paper which was impregnated with rust inhibitor....(there is some under the big block of my square)....

Well today it comes in pots and is far more effective:

Volatile corrosion inhibitor is the chemical that is used in small quantities to impregnate the paper that new tools are sometimes wrapped in. Rather than simply creating a physical barrier, the VCI product actively interferes with the electro chemical corrosion process.

You need some for your beautiful smoother project Richard!

Aha... I see. Thanks Jim.
Yes, just last night I was thinking about all the areas of steel that will be riveted together and what to coat them with beforehand ...

Then I would go for this stuff Richard.....

It's in a grease base and that can be smeared in the gap and will squeeze out excess when you clamp.

I use that predominantly as a wipe down after using a tool....particularly with oak and such....

I cut it with Rennaissance Wax....which is not an economy driver per se....as RW is just as expensive but because I like RW for the wood parts too!

I have a feeling that RW does contain some VCI....it is used in museums for preservation so it probably has something like that....
