I was wondering if anyone knew of a Swiss army style carving knife?

I'm after something that can be carried around in my pocket quite easily without stabbing my in the leg every 5 minutes as I find blood is one of those tough stains that Vanish just doesn't shift very well.

There's this one:

- £105.95 from Axminster: http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Flexcut-Carvin-Jack-33282.htm

I was given one as a present a year or two ago - and I think they must have been a lot cheaper then otherwise the person who saw it wouldn't have bought it on a whim - and it's a great thing to have in the top of your rucksack or the glove pocket of the car when on holiday. And VERY sharp! Highly recommended as a tool ... at that price ... hmmm ...

Stig, your question set me thinking, sorry. Any how this is what I came up with. Flexcut do 'sets' of blades to fit into reciprocating holders on small power carvers. They also do a handle for these.

When I bought a set of cutters I baulked at the price of the handle and bought a cheap pin chuck, this needed about half a millimetre opening up of the hole in the collet but works fine. I glued this pin chuck into a block cutter handle from one of the carving tool companies.

OK! So onto mark two. If the handle, for the pin chuck, were to be a pen style barrel, like all these marking knives around here. Then it would be possible to put together something along the lines of these multi bit screwdriver sets. Possibly even using a cigar case.

Of course there is no reason why a handle could not be made for each blade, either with a pin chuck, or glued directly in.

Ooo... now you've got my imagination going! :)
