Hello all :D , I've been ill for a couple of weeks, first having the lovely Norovirus ,which while I was getting over that, the wife managed to catch a nasty flu type thing which both my little boy and myself then got......great :( This did however give me a chance to think of a few ideas of things to turn and read a fascinating book about UFOs
The two things combined to give me the idea for this 'Alien Artifact'.
The vessel is made from Ash coloured with chestnut stains and a leather band/belt around it with a couple of glass beads. The stand is plywood painted silver with hamerite(I wanted it to have a cast appearance) with a piece of a broken silver necklace to suspend the vessel. The base is just a shaped piece of softwood that has been ebonised.

I really like the concept and the suspended vessel. The only thing that jars is the silver stand, it is too flat. It looks like a piece of MDF with some holes cut in it and painted silver.

Saying that I cannot figure out what would look better so I shouldn't cast aspersions.

Like the concept Johnny, like the design of the stand but I don't think the detail finish is up to your usual standards, a bit more time blending and sanding before the finish coat perhaps. Real shout out loud for the piece would be to use a polished aluminium alloy or stainless support instead of the wood. (not a cheap option though)

I can see similar on this theme using natural curved branches of Hazel or Beech etc.

Like the others I really like the design and concept. If the stand perhaps was textured to look like beaten metal it might look better or sanded to a really fine finish and painted then polished. The vessel doesn't work for me colour wise either...sorry I'm being really picky, just that overall \I love it, just the details spoil it for me. Please follow up as I reckon it is well worth it.

 No, its not the best but I am ill  I thought the thick coat of hamerite would disguise what was underneath like it does with metal but it didn't seem to do that lol. I'm just considering it a try out of an idea, since posting I've popped out and got a can of gold spray paint for another go at a stand. Just not too sure of the best material to use,the ply isn't the best but normal wood to get the shape would have been very weak or too thick :?

The colour is the part I was most happy with Pete!

All a matter of taste. I prefer darker colours myself. Bright ones like that I would use on toys etc but for me it doesn't contrast enough with the silver.

Just what was the medication for the virus Johnny ?

:D

I kinda like the idea, but not the colour of both the vessel and stand.
