Would this drawer runner (screwfix, code 55282) be suitable as a top and bottom runner for a pull out larder unit I'm building. One of the pair would be fixed to the bottom of the unit and the other fixed to the top. I'm concerned that they are designed to be side fixing runners and the weight of the fully loaded larder unit would stop the slide mechanism from sliding. If these aren't suitable what runners are.

Hi

Have you had a look at IKIA? I know it sounds a bit daft. But it's fittings and accessories are very reasonably prices. Got the whole pulling out fitting for half the price B&Q were selling them and it was full hight. They sell on line too.

Have looked at woodfit and hafele but can't find anything suitable. They only seem to sell the full set up with the chrome baskets and rails etc. I'm just after the runner set as I want to make it out of wood. The space its going into is only 150 mm wide and 1800 high, so I think it will be used as a sliding wine rack.

Some drawer slides can take a lot of weight but those ones are more expensive then the ones you are looking at. You'd have to do a search for them, i haven't seen them for some time. The cheap ones kinda took over. You'll have to figure out how much weight something like that is and see if you can find a drawer slide will work. You may have to break it in half and do two with four drawer slides kinda thing.

An option you could try is what I did to make slides for machinery in my workshop. The idea is to mount the runners onto right angled aluminum bar. The runners can be attached with pop rivets. The drawing gives the idea.

In this configuration you get the full strength of the runners. I have used this method to make a pull out router table, miter saw, disc sander and even a motiser. So it should work for a pull out larder unit, but for stability I would have runners at the top and bottom.

At Hafele they are under Runner Range/Runners for Cupboards.

No idea what the price is as I'm not trade.

Thanks for all the replies as always. The only runner I've been able to find at the moment is from hettich, at a cost of around £100 + vat, but I really like the idea of Sawdust Maker's so will have a go at that.
