Having fun using Opera now. It's very fast but struggling to transfer bookmarks unless I do it manually which will take for ever. Any ideas ?

Err ye the book mark thing. Err forgot to mention it's a pain sorry... But can be done it has a good help menu though. I can't be more helpful than that I didn't have a load of bm's so I didn't go into it that deeply.

I used Opera for a couple of years but then they seemed to lose their way.

For the last year or more, I have been using Pale Moon,
- http://www.palemoon.org/

"Pale Moon is an Open Source, Firefox-based web browser available for Microsoft Windows and Linux (with other operating systems in development), focusing on efficiency and ease of use."

When things start acting up on my computer, it's usually a sign that the OS should be re-installed.
I do this once every 12-18 months.
Works like a sharp chisel after that.

I'm now working my way through a product called xmarks. You can install it on any browser so you can load it up in chrome then download it into opera. Just cant get opera to recognise it yet. I'm doing something wrong I think.

I use SandboxIE, which creates a virtual environment for your browser to work in. Very effective, and you need no technical knowledge to do this. I also use ccleaner, too.

Haven't used Xmarks but it has had good reports,

Xmarks blog - http://blog.xmarks.com/?p=1988

Should also have said that Pale Moon browser allows you to import your bookmarks/favorites/links from another browser or from an HTML file & can export to (create) an HTML file.

Sorted now many thanks for all the input chaps :D

How exactly. Is this a complete format and reinstall, or can you reinstall the OS without disturbing the other files; as you could in Windows 98. (Make me wonder why they binned that idea. Retrograde step I thought.

Please?
Cheers. John

Yes, complete format and reinstall. Insert DVD with OS and boot from CD Rom .
It takes maybe 2 hours to back up data, reinstall the OS, drivers and other software and get everything back working.
I remember W98. Setting up parameters for a dial up modem was very interesting. :)

Thanks DJ.

I never had the dial-up problem. My son always sorted that for me; although I have been on broadband since Moses was at Law School.
I think I will buy a full Windows 7 disc then and reformat. This unresponsive Explorer problem is slowly wearing me down. I'm hoping I can get rid of a partition that's on the drive. If I can't I'll have to remember to put all my programs on the bigger partition.

Thanks again
John

If you have the Windows serial number found on a blue COA lable somewhere on the case there is no need to buy anything.
Microsoft has arranged for the legal downloading of Windows 7 ISOs from Digital River, which can then be burnt to a DVD
- http://best-windows.vlaurie.com/boot-disks.html#full

Check to make sure you get the right version.

A format should wipe the drive completely, including any hidden Restore partition.

After the install be prepared for several hours of downloading & installing Windows updates. :(

This must be the reason I can't find a copy of Windows 7 then. So, what does a person who builds their own PC do for an OS? Who does Gates think he is? God, I suppose! I'll have to find a number then! 8)
Thanks Robbo.

I use IE at work [no choice] and Opera on my main home machine for web and emails. I'm using Firefox on this laptop as I had some issues with Opera on windows [piece of #%&$] 8. I still prefer Opera, but may move to a dedicated prog for email.

Thanks MB. Do you know of a way to transfer bookmarks into opera? The help guide gives instructions which don't work with the newest version. I've tried downloading the earlier version but it just reverts to the new one.

Hi
click on bookmarks top left, manage bookmarks, file, import

Appears you can only import Firefox, IE and Konqueror.

been using Opera for a while and only just found this a couple of weeks ago.

Happy with Opera I left Chrome on the computer just in case. Opera started hanging and slowed down, just as Chrome used to. I un-installed Chrome and hey presto Opera is ultra fast again!......Nasty Chrome! Good riddance!

...... I have always built my own computers (well, for the last 30 years or so) and I use Linux, free, fast, compact and does what I want not what Mr Gates says I must do. :)
