Thanks, Peter. That double square is a great tool, I bought the 4R version from the US, but I’d have happily have bought it from you. The Fischer rule also looks good, very similar to the Shinwa that I already have.

I guess that it doesn’t make sense for you to stock imperial only rules, but I find the one 6” rule I have, with 1/8ths on one edge and 1/16ths on the other, my go to rule for most things these days.

@mccpe We used to stock more imperial stuff but we found it just slow to move, we do have this dual scale FastCap tape measure, not the same as a rule but...

For those that don't get why there are Imperial rules in decimal it is used in aviation and other manufacturing because aircraft were drawn in decimals and not fractions. Milling machines, lathes etc here are marked in decimals for the same reasons. Same reasons why micrometers, callipers, were decimal inches. It is only with recent digital callipers would you see fractional readouts and they are only approximations. I still make use of my decimal rules for machining projects, not woodwork.

Hi blokes, sorry for hijacking the thread, but I have a question re the accuracy of steel rules. I have compared 4 of my many steel rules and find that over the 12" (apologies to the metric members of the forum) of the rulers there is a discrepancy of about 1/16" to 3/32". So I don't trust these rulers any more. I know Mitutoyu and Shinwa are good makers of measuring equipment, I just wondered what other forum members use and recommend. I lean toward the satin chrome matt finish, I find it easier to read with my failing eyesight than the shinier polished finishes. Any thoughts?

We have seen discrepancies in cheaper rules within the workshop, I have been using Japanese Fisher rules for years and never seen any inaccuracy and the satin chrome finish never fades or looses its clarity.

A ruler can be a bit out and not matter as long as it's the only one used on the project. School woodwork basics. Having said that I have cursed a bit for not always following that good advice. Rulers and tape measures are at times not getting along with each other.
