Anyone got one, not a morse taper fitting - but one which fits into a chuck and tell me the diameter of the bit wot fits into aforementioned chuck?

Cheers,

Chris.

24.5mm on the round edges, but also has 4 square off areas that are 23.8mm.

The squared off edges are i assume to fit the patriot chuck or similar, but they fit fine in my inch diameter jaws!

Thanks a lot....close enough then - want it to fit in Axminster spigot jaws + a 4 jaw chuck.

Chris.

Going slight OT on the query, but related to it - what centre accuracy do you guys expect off your chucks ?

If I run a Steb, or any other centre in the lather drive shaft (MT2), I'm meauring less than a thou off centre, but if I mount a centre into the chuck, and this is a centre that I have checked on a metal working lathe as being <1 thou out, I get anything up to 5 thou error. Is this the norm, or am I unnecessarily applying metal working standards ?

Blimey Rob, if you can get as accurate as 5 thou thou art more accurate than I me-thinks!

I have been mounting my ring centre in my Axminster 4 jaw chuck wiile I've been doing that tractor and have noticed a very slight wobble, but I must admit to not being at all worried about it and it doesn't seem to have effected the outcome?

I bought a 1/2 stebdrive for the 4 jaw chuck on Friday. Used it to mount a 4"x2.5" block of figured sycamore for a box! Held it superbly, didn't need to make a hole, or score the blank like you do with the 4 prong drives! Also did not damage the end of the timber as much as a 4 prong would do!

They might be more expensive but definitely worth it!

Hi John
I did just wonder - but that is the problem of coming from a metal turning knowledge base.

But it does throw up just what a rip off wood turning lathes are in that I can get one for the metal lathe at the same sort of price which will give a flat reading on the dial gauge. OK that accuracy is perhaps not required, but that should be reflected in the price.
