Startrite Mercury Pillar Drill 5053

I recently lost my husband and have this Pillar drill for sale but I have no idea what it is worth and wondered if someone would be willing to advise me? My husband was a perfectionist and used this on a regular basis engineering parts for our old cars. I also have a Myford bench top lathe for sale and again have no idea of the value. Is there anyone who could recommend someone who could give me a valuation please?

eBay sold listings are probably your best bet.

The myford in particular could vary from a bit to a lot, dependant on model.

Depends on if it's single or three phase, bench or floor standing.

A few weeks ago I picked up a bench mounted three phase startrite mercury MK2 (think it's a for £150. Clean and useable. Saw a few advertised from £150 to £250ish depending on condition. Single phase being more desirable and therefore more expensive. Likewise floor standing being more expensive.

I'd also assume there's some tooling and attachments with the lathe that can be worth as much as it more than the lathe itself. Something to consider when checking eBay sales.

As others have said, eBay is indeed an option, but as this is primarily a woodworking forum you might want to take a look at www.homeworkshop.org.uk, as although the drill will appeal across disciplines, the lathe will have most appeal to those engaged in model engineering. There are also one or two specialist dealers in Myford tools. The value will depend on age, condition and tooling but it's worth a bit of research. Best of luck.

You can identify the exact model of lathe using the lathes.co.uk website. You could contact Tony for an honest valuation, there is also a Myford and Drummond owners page on Facebook where various opinions will be offered. I would advise not selling to the first person waving money and rather get a balanced view of the value from a number of sources. As. Above the extras are all worth good money so don’t just throw them in with the lathe to clear the shed out!

Big thank you for your help and advise. I will keep researching on google. There are a lot of extras with both the drill and the lathe.

Mine is a bench mounted one. It originally came from a big engineering company and is definitely of industrial quality. Both drill and lathe have many extra tools and attachments with them
