Hi All,
not posted for long time after some medical problems, feel a bit sheepish posting just to ask a question so apologies if it upsets anyone
I have been asked to alter a staircase for someone, basically they want to turn a pine staircase into an oak one by covering the treads and risers in oak and cutting of newels down to the sq section and then joining on an oak newel and fitting new oak handrail, baserail and spindles.
What worries me is the joint in the newels not sure whether to use a peg, a zipbolt newel fastener or if either will be strong enough?
Not much experience with staircases am more of a built ins and fitted furniture man but I do like a challenge!
Any thoughts would be gratefully received also wondering if anyone has used the tread/riser kits and if they had any problems.
Thanks in advance,
Gavin
