It's just scarfed in the other orientation, right (as in, I'm not missing something extra)?
 
It may just be the photo, but there looks to be a line between the left hand mortices. Did you do a long mortice, slip in the timbers, then fill the central part of the mortice. Also could we have a picture from the other side.

That's what I was about to say but then the rest of the thread happened.
 
Looks good, Mike. Just don't go splashing paint all over it when you come to re-doing the ceiling! :D Sorry, I've just been working in a house where there's white splashed all over the woodwork - and that was long before I picked up a brush! :wink:

My wife wanted a place to hang some pans and implements........and no doubt some dried hops and other kitchen essentials. I wanted to make 2 posts and 2 beams a bit more interesting........and I love green oak, and draw bore mortice & tenons.......

.......so, the whole thing really was just for fun!
