I know lots of keen cyclists here and also lots of pratical people so although strange request welcome any ideas!

I'm trying to secure my phone with mapping software to my bike. Bought the Arkon holder below but it's very loose - the phone isn't gripped by arms (5mm gap). Even if it was I would need to secure it more. Any ideas - have tried elastic bands but obstruct too much of screen. Best solution so far is wrapping pallet wrap around!

So need a slightly better solution - any ideas. Do have some brazing equipment and also that polymorph plastic stuff if t hat helps.

Thank you!

I think you need to re-make the bit that clamps onto the handle bars. This could be a crude as a jubilee clip.

Sticky backed velcro - one side of the phone , one side on the holder

ive never used it in this capacity but i know (motor)bikers who have used it to stick video cameras to their lids or tanks so it must be pretty grippy.

Some good ideas thanks. Like the velcro idea although couldn't apply it to the phone itself. But perhaps I could make a plastic sleeve and attach velcro to that ...
Thanks
Gidon

I have no doubt the velcro will hold it securely, but will it hold it in the right position? I think you need a more positive fixture to the bike.

Pursued the velcro and plastic sleeve idea - an offcut of a huge thick plastic bag and a cheap bag sealer I found in the children's craft cupboard!. Plus added some self amalgamating tape to the arms to close the gap. And hey presto (not quite as pretty as I'd hoped but still!):

i think you have misunderstood tom - my understanding is that the plastic jobby (the arkon holder) fits onto the bike fine , but doesnt hold the phone securely in its arms - therefore the idea would be to fit the arkon to the bike and use the velcro to stick the phone into the cradle ;)

Hi Gidon,

When I'm sailing, my mobile goes in an Aquapac - this would give you a version of your bag that is easier to get the phone in and out of, and it has the added advantage of being fully waterproof. Unfortunately sailing makes woodworking look like a cheap hobby  although I'm sure there are much cheaper places than the site I linked to for these things.

Cheers,
Neil

Hi Gidon,

In the days when I did some cycle racing (a long time ago :( ), we used to use a Terry's Stopwatch Clip for securing a stopwatch to the handlebars - you can see a picture here http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/co ... -clip.html

It used to be very secure. You might be able to knock up something similar with a few bits of metal that would fit your high-tech thingy.

Cheers

BSM - that's how I interpreted your suggestion. Whether the Arkon things is secure on the bike is another matter!
Neil I do have one of those aquapacs for a camera but didn't want to start sticking velcro over it!
Paul - that looks the business - might have a little investigation into something like that when I get time - thanks.
Cheers
Gidon
