Hi all,
I am looking at building my own L shape sofa with built in storage. I have been looking around and seen a few bits about and it seems feasible for my level. For seat cushions in going to use Ikea foam bed mattresses (much cheaper than the "real" foam even if i have to use 2 mattresses)

My question is has anyone done this before on here and also are the recommended angles and or setups for sofas that i should be aware of.

Cheers
Mark

Well I built mine from the remains of my previous one making some slight changes in the back angle, a mock up is the best way to go.

The frame

Its all simple stuff with bracing and no fancy joints and all the corners rounded over.
The base was the only thing left from the last settees.
The arms are detachable as it won't fit through the door in our house, some people have had to take a window to get theirs in.
We had it upholstered by a local firm and they made a very good job and it didn't cost all that much.
He said it had some good comments from people while it was in the shop being done.

:) Don't forget that any part of the frame that is angled intersects with the same angle parts coming in at right angles which can make the corner planning difficult. DAMHIKT.

Looks nice Pete. The frame is simple and similar to what I imagined on how it would be constructed. How much was the upholster out of interest.

Phil, what do you mean by what you put. Are you talking about how the L shape will meet? If so I have been thinking out that quite a bit. I think a sketch up session would be in order to get the design and angles worked out .

About £1200, its expensive material rated as heavy duty so it should last.

Looks like they done a nice job for it.

Oh right ok MMUK that makes sense (just need to learn about how I would do that haha, but it gives me a big hint, cheers)
