Spent a few hours this weekend with Mike O'Donnel \:D/

When I get back down south I'm on the lookout for some green (fresh) sycamore, cos I think I've had a conversion.

He's the reknowned master of turning wet wood... has Books, DVD's etc etc... As I understand it, he had nasty reactions to the dust of dried woods and had to go for turning green, and has become one of the foremost exponents on the subject.

he's up the top end of Scotland somewhere, Thurso area I believe ?

In fact .... here you go ! ~~> http://www.woodturning.uk.com/

his book - the imaginitively titled , turning green wood, ISBN 1-86108-089-1 from GMC publicastions is well worth a look , after the "bible" and dave regesters individual approach it was one of the first turning books i bought.

Loz if i get any wind blown sycamore this year i'll give you a shout - i had loads last year but most of it wound up being firewood as there was more than i could handle for turning.

Didnt get much sleep last night (dog had a road accident on monday and keeps chewing her stiches) - I meant of course to extend that offer to Lurker ;)

I bought "Turning Green Wood" some time ago. Its a very practical book for us folks who like to source our own turning wood.

I now also have Mike's new book (can't find on the internet) AND the DVD linked to Turning Green Wood.

He makes some superb thin walled bowls and contarary to convention the wetter the better -in fact he used a mist sprayer whilst turning.

He has been quiet for a while as he has been designing & building a new home which is breathtaking.

I sort of "gate crashed" but he was most generous with his time.

He lives just about as far north as you can get on mainland UK.

Lurker,

What size Sycamore do you want?
I`ve a whole 200 year old tree, its been felled about 6 months, if you want some i can take it to Jonnys bash.

Doug

That sounds very tempting and you just on the doorstep so to speak!

Am not going to make the bash as I'm working. But guess you cannot be far from Loughborough (my southern abode).

I return from the far North in two weeks time, I'll PM you shortly afterwards if I may.

Thanks

BSM
Thanks for your offer too
