I have been on the look-out for a while now, for some lightish small diam. (say 28mm) flexible hose to connect my dust extractor to some of my hand held tools.
I have been using some pipe that came with my DeWalt saw but am fed up with changing the fittings each time!
Anybody know of a source of some?

Rod

Hi Rod

I had this problem a while back and solved it with a trip to my local vacuum cleaner repair shop. They sell vacuum hoses of various diameters by the metre along with the swivel fit nozzles for the ends. From there it's a matter of being inventive with various sizes of pvc waste pipe bends and junctions or some of that shrink-fit stuff that Axminster sell.

Hope this helps.

Hi Mark

I used to have a Camvac but the smallest size they do is 2.5"

I've collected a few old vacuum cleaner pipes but they tend to be fairly heavy.

The best stuff I have is the DW 28mm pipe which came with my saw and is light enougth not to effect the handling of the power tool. The trouble is it only comes as part of an accessory kit and is therefore relatively expensive.
Festool do some pipe for their stuff but I was quoted £85 for it!!
The pipe that came with my Macallister dust vac is fine with my belt sander as the sander is quite heavy and can cope with it, but my biscuit jointer really needs a lighter connection. I tend not to use the dust extractor when using my Router hand held because of this problem.
There must be some cheap lightweight pipe out there somewhere?

Bosch do 19mm and 35mm hose for their stuff, it comes in 3m and 5m lengths with connectors on the ends.

Part numbers in case you want to check it out:

19mm diameter

2 600 793 009 for the 3 meter
1 610 793 002 for the 5 meter

Works fine on sanders etc.

35mm diameter

2 607 000 837 for the 3 meter
1 609 202 230 for the 5 meter

Better for portable planers and routers with lots of waste.

* Disclaimer: I never said it was cheap! :?

Dave.

Dave thanks for that - do you happen know who stocks it - google was very unhelpful?

Rod

Rod, yes I see your problem. Trouble is, cheap "lightweight pipe" (if it can be found) may not be designed for vacuum use and therefore unable to withstand the pressure drop without collapsing.

p.s. when you say 28mm, do you mean inside or outside diameter?

Edit
try here

I believe any Bosch dealer will be able to give you a price and get it in for you.

For mail order could try Healy's (the Bosch/Festool specialists) on 0845 602 3778 - I use them sucessfully

They also have an Ebay shop

Dave.

3M make some. It's the same stuff that bodyshops use to hook up their handheld airtools. I use one about 3 metres long for my hand tool.

If you don't have much look - let me know and I'll get you a price and part nbr.

My DW pipe is 28mm ID (about 34mm OD - it's ribbed)

MarkW thanks, but that stuff comes in 15m lengths!

Dibs-h if you could let me have the details please? - looking (like you) for about 3m.

This just came to me after I was looking for some 25 mm int diameter hosing for a pond fountain. I went to all of my local gardening centres, but they only had the black ribbed stuff in various diameters. Unfortunately I required it in clear.

Now there is a good choice of diameters in the pond hose range, and as its not to do with power tools is likely to be cheaper. Another plus, is that as it is used for underground piping of water, it will have excellent strength and flexibility as well!

Just a thought.

Hi Harbo
Alto - Wap make exactly that hose for their vacs .Elu sold them as did Festo Stihl Hilti etc .They work really well with most of my power tools having a 27mmID and tapered 35-40mmOD rubber end. Only a few odd Bosch and Makita tools need an adapter. The hoses are also sold by festool in standard and antistatic(conductive plastic) by the metre or complete.

Rod - sorry mate, been having a right old ding dong with the 3M rep. Seems i can get the damn hoses easier that I can get the silly bird to get me the part number.

However she's in tomorrow and she knows I want that part number - no part nbr, not buying any stuff.

I'll take some measurements and post a picture tonight when I get home.

One end of it is exactly the same diameter as a domestic hose (int & ext), the other end has a connector that fits exactly into the dust port of my Metabo ROS - if that is anyhelp.

I did get an indicative price of around £30 but hopefully be able to confirm soon.

Sorry it's taken a while.

Got the part nbr - tw@t of a mate in the workshop lost the piece of paper, not very impressed. Will be ringing up the rep and getting it again in the morning.

Will be posting you a picture with it hopefully in the evening.

Rod

Many apologies for being such a lazy @rse. Got the bloody part nbr in the end,

Hose & adapter = 09316
Hose (no adapter) = 09920

These are the 3M part numbers I am told.

The hose comes with and without the adapter on the end.

However, it is exactly the same as,

http://www.toolmix.com/browse/product.a ... =FROOGLEUK

This is excatly what I have, so I suspect 3M don't actually make them. I've duct taped the adapter end to the end of my Vac hose and shove the non-adapter end into the dust port of my power tools. Works a treat with my Metabo ROS.

Regards

Dibs

Dibs-h - many thanks for that - looks like the right stuff I need - will give them a try. :)

I saw the Axminster shrink wrap stuff. Is it any good for matching different sizes...
Does it last? How strong is it if you dangle it off a tool outlet? Seems all makes
have their own sizes and apart from duct tape this seems the only option.

Curious what others have found, 'cos it's not exactly cheap.

I have an industrial vac that I kept after closing my business. It does not have an original hose but is working well with polyurethane spiral ducting that came from RS. RS are not cheap so it must be available elsewhere cheaper.

They have huge URLs so I used snipurl to shorten it to http://snipurl.com/1tqyc You can get to other sizes by clicking the category at the top. Or you could just go to http://rswww.com and search for superflex.
