How can I get rid of a slight bow in a length of wood to be used for a door,I don't need to plane or reduce it's thickness!
Treated scots pine,(deal),for a greenhouse,external,hee,hee,4x2 approx! It's slightly bowed on the 4" part of 4x2 lengrh of wood. What timber, how much of a bow, internal or external door, finished stock size?
It is a tough call, I had what I thought were some nice 65mm thick Oak waney edge boards, destined for a door but the grain was wild and the risk was to great to use it.
Can you use it on the cross rails. Cut into shorter lengths, bow will have less impact.Treated scots pine,(deal),for a greenhouse,external,hee,hee,4x2 approx! It's slightly bowed on the 4" part of 4x2 lengrh of wood.
I have done the same. Once got a fair few 4.8m 6x2 really cheap because they were twisted and bowed. I have some really heavy duty right angle brackets on the wall of the workshop. Gave them a good wetting then clamped them to the brackets, as you say slightly over compensated for the twist using bits of wood between the brackets and the timber. Once thoroughly dried out they were pretty good. So can be done, but you need something really solid to hold them.I tend to get rid of bows by wetting them and putting them in the sun if its bare timber. Surprising how much they will move but you have to go a bit too far as they move back a bit.
