First too big, now too small. Don't know what I've done. Never mind. WiZeR the actual max rip on my saw is

woodnet8-1.jpg

749mm substantially more than I thought. As I said before the newer cabinet model has a little more still. The rails do protrude out like the Excaliber but not to that extent and I use this space to store and use my workmate.

This gives me a to hand place to keep pencils, tape measure etc without interfearing with the fence. It also stops we walking into the rails.

I can't talk for the newer model but this on legs model was updated at some point internally to create an internal hopper.

On the versions in the US this is actually a hinged door. I know it doesn't look like it from the picture but the dust extraction is pretty good and way better than my old Ktiy 419 and better again than the SIP clone a friend has. Two and a half inch extraction to the crown guard is aslo a bonus.

This is the sliding table fully back. Very quick and smooth. Just needs the mitre fence screwing on.

The extraction feeds the crown hose into the main hose at the back but this was a pain so I plumbed them into my extraction system seperately so if I'm using the saw without the guard I can ensure maximum suck from around the blade.

Dom for some reason I thought that the sliding table didn't come back behind the 'parked' position. This helps bundles, especially with the confirmation of 800mm+ of fence capacity. I think that this is the best solution for my shop.

Yes, you heard right, I have made a decision! It's the Jet Supersaw for me.

Now, some serious re-org in order!!

Woohoo

Thanks Dom and all who helped.

My current TS is the Triton Workcentre and that has a fence capacity of about 640mm. Only yesterday was I wishing I had more capacity than that gave me. If the SS can only manage 600mm, it's probably a bit tight for me. hrmm.. Back to the drawing board.

The Maxi sliding/extension table for the Triton can be set up with the extension table fixed to give a rip capacity of 1200 mm IIRC.

George I think the Triton is a fantastic bit of kit and has helped me get started in woodworking. But for me it has reached the end of it's life and I want to upgrade. The Jet will have many benefits that I longed for. Ultimately I wanted a new toy, I admit.

Excellent Wizer, I'm sure you'll be delighted. It's a good saw, and if I hadn't got my Xcalibur I think I would buy the Jet, too. Having helped set up Newbie Niel's I can say that I don't think that the build quality is quite as good in some areas, but the design is more modern, and the switch being on the left is definitely a big plus.

My advice is ditch the throat plate, you could get a plank down there, and make yourself some zero-clearance inserts. I also prefer my home-made SUVA guard to any riving-knife-mounted one.

If you want to be a super-hero, why not document its assembly and commissioning, I'm sure we would all be interested in that.

BTW, if you are thinking of getting the Poolewood one, just check that you are comparing like-with-like. I see no mention of the sliding table. Are you sure it's not the fixed-leaf option they are offering?

Cheers
Steve

I know what you mean. I'm sure I'll upgrade from my Triton one day too...just can't afford to at the moment

Thanks Steve, zero-clearance inserts are on my list. I will try to document the setup. I'm not having it delivered until the end of September, to allow for workshop maintenance. I agree with you re: the guard and will have another look at your article when the saw arrives.

Good point about the sliding table. It's a bit late now  but i'll ask.

For now I have to think about dust extraction, I'm almost certainly going to have to buy a new unit. hmm wonder if the missus will let me house it in the kitchen :-k :D

I'm glad you made that decision, Wizer. I did not say anything because Dom was doing such a good job but I have had a Jet SS for years and it has never let me down. An excellent lump of kit, I reckon. Just don't drop any of the grey bits on your foot, when you are assembling it!!

Cheers,
