Anyone know if you can change the grain direction when painting things on sketchup.

I have just drawn a bookcase and when you do the material filling the wood grain comes out fine on the sides but on the shelves the grain is going across and not along the shelves and it looks odd.

yes you can. Firstly you have to make sure you are applying textures to each individual face as apposed to colouring the whole component at once. Edit the component, apply the texture then right click on it and select texture. In here you will have options to rotate or flip the texture.
