Hi folks,

I am considering purchasing a SIP 01456 ..... does anyone have any firsthand experience with the capabilities of this machine. I would be using it to manufacture hardwood windows and doors so it would need to be capable of some hefty cuts but because of my location weight and size are limiting factors, and not just for the moulder, which rules out any of the bigger more capable machines. I can just about cope with the size but anything over say 200kg would be out of the question. This would be my first SM and any advice would be appreciated.

Many Thanks

Hi Steve ........ I've bought junk in the past and have no desire to do so again although it would seem there is quite a few folks on here that have had no probs with some SIP gear, esp the heavier table saws and I was just wondering if this was in the same category. I know that ideally I would have to purchase a more robust and capable machine to do the job but circumtances at the moment dictate otherwise......

Cheers.

I don't know much about sip and their machines, but had a look at their web site and the particular machine your asking about retails at £2780. Now I wouldn't call that entry price level or should lack quality. Even better they offer it for just over £1200 at the moment. Well if I had that money and was in the market I would certainly give that a very good look at.

When SIP first released the 01456 I had one delivered to my workshop which I formally reviewed for The Woodworker and have got to say I was very impressed with it, whilst alot of SIP equipment is aimed at the DIYer the heavy duty ranges are far superior and I found it equally as good as the Jet JWS-34 that I use in my workshop, if not better in some ways.

I have an SIP 12" cast iron table saw as well as one of their heavy duty hollow chisel morticers and they have both been absolutely trouble free and they have been very heavily used over the years that I have had them.

After the review of the spindle moulder was completed I was offered the chance of buying the machine at a significant reduction and knowing a colleague was looking for one he bought it to use in his workshop making oak window frames.

He has had it now for several years, it is in daily use and he has never told me he has had any problems with it, and believe me if he had I would have been the first to know!! :)

Many Thanks for all the advice gentlemen. If I take the plunge I'll let you know whether its churning out windows or been relegated to the skip.

Scott and Seargent sell this machine, looks identical.

It seemed quite well made to me, and am considering one myself. The sliding table looked identical to the one I had on a Scheppach panel saw.
But then I am a bit weird, I prefer to buy new machines rather than ancient old lumps of iron, even if they aren't as well made.

Just found this one, looks the same and I have bought from this company and they are very good to deal with.
