Just a thought, but is there a) any interest in, and b) any way of setting up a Jigs & Tips section on this site?
I always find it fascinating to see other peoples solutions and shop aids. Everyone has their own solutions and to have all these tips in one place would be really helpful.
I know I'm not a veteran of this forum so may be percieved as being cheeky, but it's just a thought?
Any ideas?

This has been brought up before, many times. There is a Jig section of the main site. But it is not updated. Requests for a Jigs section of the forum have been rejected in the past.

Don't take my post the wrong way, I would love to see a dedicated Jigs section and maybe this thread will whip up the right amount of support. Just filling you in on what has happened in the past.

I would like to see a jigs section. I am just starting out with this wood stuff and even the basic jigs that most of you take for granted I have no idea about but would like to know. All help is greatly appreciated to make my and others hobbies much more enjoyable.

Another way is every time you see a post about a jig that you might find useful, just save a link to it in your favourites. That way saves someone else the bother of maintaining a dedicated section on the forum. You can also save links to jigs that you come across elsewhere.

Cheers

I tried way back as you to get a jigs section on the forum but to no avail as there is a jig section but it doesn't get updated much which really says it all a jigs and tips section on the forum itself is a much better idea, one day the message may get through?...

I don't mean to be disrespectful to the people who admin this forum but I would really like to know what is the reason for not having a jigs section?
I love to see all the ingenious ideas and jigs people come up with because finding easier ways to do things makes them more available to all of us...
I know a little about forums like this as I am involved in setting up an international one in the arena of dog rescues etc and I believe it is easy to just add another section...
Of course I know that the programs are different and the one we are using is PHPbb3 I think and that is free, but if this software is paid for then there may be some licensing restrictions I guess but it would be nice to know as to the reason because it does seem like a really good idea...
No offence meant to anyone...you have my eternal gratitude for creating this forum in the first place so thanks for that.
Cheers

From memory Timmo, the only reason was 'lack of interest'.

So if you support this idea, please post.

Hi WiZer,
Sorry - excuse my ignorance, but post where? The intention of my post was to support the idea but I haven't come up with any jigs myself..I do like a lot of Steve Maskery stuff (so much so I am tempted to buy his DVD's) and also that chap Niki (please excuse my spelling if it is wrong). I am sure there are a lot more but they would certainly be easier to find in there own section...
Cheers
Timmo

A good source of tips for making jigs etc is Robert Wearing's book on "Making Woodwork Aids & Devices". Fabulous little book, hundreds of ideas and aids and still in print.

I don't know why a 'jigs section' hasn't been supported by the forum's administrators, but I can see how it could be problematic. Collating and aggregating all the jigs on this forum would be quite a task, as would ensuring that the conversation remained focussed. Quite often, a jig is created to address a specific need in a project and the conversation covers not only that jig, but other aspects of the project.

In theory, the idea of a 'jigs section' is a good one which I endorse. In practice, it's probably simpler to use a 'search' facility to find whatever specific jig you're looking for.

Perhaps an alternative approach to a 'jigs section' would be for someone to create a jigs blog which links to the various jigs on the forum. A link to the blog could be added in their signature block.

yes, it would be useful if fellow members would post links to jigs in that thread. Or indeed if a new thread was start which encompassed all jig links and then it was made a sticky. Much like the tool show thread.

This jig section has definitely come up before and I would welcome a separate section on the forum...mind you, it might be monopolised by Niki   - Rob
