I used mine for the first time this week. Need to repair a fence and it made really quick work of it. I bought the one shown plus the one with the knob on it which has been the most useful. Leaves a rough finish.

I've used one for a couple of years - the coarse side really removes material fast! Great value for money, it's well worth getting. You'll need a finer rasp or files to finish off after it, though.
Hope this helps

Hi Karl,

I use one for some of the roughing work when cutting spirals:

I also use microplane files which are fantastic. The bigger size only as I found the smaller ones to be a little flimsey.

As already said, the Shinto leases quite a rongh finish but, like most of the Japanese tools, well worth having in your arsenal!!

Cheers,

Richard
