Hi all i am just adapting my out building to make a little workshop its 17ft by 15ft half brick half wood it is roughly 1mtr from house and 3mtr from mains consumer unit

i am wanting to install electrics and do all work apart from conextions leave that to a sparky
i am wanting strip light 2/3 double sockets plus a 16amp supply for a table saw ether sip or axminster

so wot do i need to purchase i no i need sockets and wires but wot consumer unit and 16amp socket ect

You proberly would need a 8 MCB on and ensure it has at least a single 16 and 30amp one. Dare I say screw fix do them for areasonable price.

I am sure there are more knowledgable people who can advise as th the correct names. I did my shed last year, lights, sockets, heater, consumer unit and off course the wireing and armoured wiring.

I think your question would be better directed to the sparky you intend getting to carry out the final work, as it is him you will be asking to sign it off. You could end up spending money on gear that your sparky is unwilling to use for whatever reasons & as most tradesmen have their own way of working he will want things done the way he is happy with.

As long as you do it according to the regulations he shouldn't have any say in how it's done, just if it's safe. A sparky who fails your installation just because "he wouldn't have done it that way" should lose his Part P accreditation, IMHO

My workshop/garage is about 20' x 18' and I've 25 double sockets - two thirds of them at any given time I can't get to. I would put rather more than two or three in - you'll be surprised how many end up with things plugged in permanently, and it's cheap enough to do from the beginning.
