The switches are guaranteed for a million presses..but that is a Chinese guarantee.

.I took one apart and the switch/ clicking part is convex little metal disc that goes flat when you push the switch and then bounces back up to its original convex shape

They may be fine, I physically damaged one hammering a fret in with a small dead blow hammer.
When I took the damaged switch apart the convex metal disc had been flattered..so maybe normal finger pressing will be fine but not a hammer!

It it is CNC'd, you should be able to achieve very good depth control on the pockets for the magnets, so should be able to get them within a Rizla paper of touching, for maximal attraction.

Pro tip: try not to have the south pole of both sides facing outwards or crying will ensue.

You are putting a sticking plaster over the problem, not addressing the root cause.

Buy a more reliable switch that lasts for two hours longer than the guarantee runs out. Six magnets from the above link are £4.50. That buys a lot of quality switch-wise.

Why does this forum censor an alternate name for a Rizla paper? This makes talking about a bearing manufacturer whose initials are the same rather difficult (https://www.schaeffler.co.uk/en/pro..._and_plain_bearings/deep_groove_ball_bearing/).
Yes it puts a big price increase and time on a item I sell for £25..than 5p worth of pva adhesive

I make Fridge Pigs on the lathe. I use the little magnets to stick them to the fridge. I have had a few fail that were glued in. I have since started using the ones with a countersunk hole and used a screw as well. Like others have said, do some tests.
They are mighty strong though.

Would double sided tape be adequate?
It would probably allow you pry the two pieces apart when necessary.

Hi I someone else also suggested double sided tape.

So I bought some Powerfix clear double sided and some foam double sided tape from Toolstation last night.
Since both rolls are 25mm wide they fitted perfect.

I tried the black foam one first which is 0.8mm thick and it looked rather good, a thin black line between both pieces of wood and super quick to do.
I haven't tried the power fix one yet but happy with the foam one

Thanks to everybody
