if you're like me then your first port-of-call is for UK only pages. However, Google UK always defaults to 'search the web'.

Here is a simple way to force it to default to UK pages.

Navigate to www.google.co.uk
Select the UK only button.
Do not put anything in search.
Hit return.

Bookmark the new page and voila.

I was reading about another search engine the other week - evidently not as good (wide) as google but damn good for factual detail.

As per usual I forget wat it was called, can anyone enlighten me?

Might have been http://www.wolframalpha.com/. This is very good for conversions, numerical facts and statistics. Definitely not a Google, but might be worth a play. It's still being developed so not terribly fast and does change as they fiddle with it.

I can't but if it can filter out those wretched site-of-site-of-site websites or price comparison websites I'd be there like a shot.
Oh boy, if only. You can try adding "-price -buy" and variations on that theme at the end of search term, but it takes a lot of trial and error to suit the particular widget for which you are searching
