I am about to lay a few slate tiles as part of making good after reinstating a doorway which had been converted to a window 30 years or so ago .

I am reluctant to spend 12 quid on a bottle of sealant to treat an area of under 5 sq ft, and am wondering if there is anything I am likely to have in the workshop which will do the job - BLO, white French polish, Neutral shoe polish, ????

Ideas please.

Many thanks,

Rob

I would have thought a varnish would do it, good enough for wooden floors. I would shy away from wax just on the off chance it stays slippery.

Years ago we did the tiles of a hotel entrance with a product that my uncle had found out was used very commonly for the same purpose in Spain. It worked brilliantly ... so long as it didn't rain. :D
