Got a scroll saw earlier today, and all was well. Been playing with it and learning how to change bladesmand whatnot.

So changed the blade, tensioned up, cut then when I went to change the tension, it would not alter.

The tensioner turns but doesn't change the tension, and it is now set on high.

I have tried to gently push on the arm, but nothing, and have removed the side plates and checked and everything seems OK.

The only thing I can think is the lower part that looks like it should move when the tensioner is twisted is most working, but I didn't tension it overly high and did have it a couple of 'notes' lower when pinging it.

So as it looks quite simple, is there anything I can do? It does work, but the tension cannot be changed :-(

Thanks

It is an old axminster yellow one, cbfs I think.

Hi Homer,

Which machine do you have? Does it have a quick release leaver to remove the blade, as well as the tensioner at the top?

There must be something if you have changed the blade you would have needed to tension it to be able to use the machine again. More details would be helpful.

I think you might need to wind the tension knob open before you clamp the blade.

If it has the tension knob and quick release, wind the knob down so its loose, clamp the blade in and then tighten the knob. Then flip the quick release if that makes sense.

Mine gradually gets loose after time and I have to do this.

Hope that makes sense.

sorted. managed to remove the tension screw assembly, gave it a clean/oil and all working now.

oddly though the diagram to tighten/loosen the tension is now reversed, but not a concern, all works and looks like the thread got a bit 'stuck', there was minor brightening of the threads, but not threaded..
