Hiya,

Suggestions welcome to save my goblet, I'm thinking a false foot.

Shame to lose all that hard work. I would taper the bottom as a tenon and create a base with a socket to accept the goblet stem.

Make a virtue of necessity and go for a stunning dark wood highly polished foot to compliment the Yew

Hi

Looks like you left the base solid :(

hence the huge crack

I would do as you say Perhaps turn another yew base , if you can re mount the original and turn a spigot ?

I reckon its going to look better if the cup lines up with the bottom of the flute, so it seems to me that there is one too many!!

I think I would cheat a bit, slice the first bit off, drill a centre hole for a dowel and turn another foot- probably in yew but maybe contrasting.

Blister - are you suggesting that the base should have been turned out, possibly first. Or perhaps you are meaning that attempting to make it all in once piece was 'ambitious' (polite way of saying 'in error' )

When turning most things unless 100% dry there is a risk of cracking if you don't keep the wall thicknesses even
more so with wet turning

The offset goblet is not 'ambitious' as you can see Laurence has coped very well , I was just offering some input as to why it cracked not as you have suggested (polite way of saying 'in error' )

Sorry Blister, I didn't present the question correctly. If you were turning such a piece, and we don't know how dry the wood is I will give you, is your post a recommendation for making such a large base hollow in that that would inhibit this cracking ?

Yes

Best if you can to keep the wall thicknesses even
