Hi all as I got fed up with our salt and pepper grinders I thought it could be a good project for me to make new ones. Anyone can advise/ recommend me where to get decent quality hardware for them?

I have made quite a few over the last couple of years. I recommend the crush grind too. they do a type with no shaft, but I haven't used those.

the stiles and bates catalogue is very useful because it gives you all of the hole sizes, and a couple of critical dimensions. https://www.stilesandbates.co.uk/files/?m=1457&s=1&l=1

I would buy a slightly longer mechanism than you need, then cut down the shaft to size with a Dremel or hacksaw. Otherwise, if you misjudge it, you have a problem. I always drill through the top and insert a white (usually maple) or black (Blackwood, walnut etc) plug in the top.

Thank you guys. Now I have no excuse apart from my lack of skill which hopefully can be sorted.
