Hi,

could I please have any of your opinions on the twin pack that Screwfix have on at the moment for the Ryobi 18v drill and circular saw for £88.00.

Seems a pretty good deal to me?

Do any of you think its worth it and is Ryobi a decent make?

Thanks.

I'd say Ryobi is an average make. I think it will serve you well and the price seems very good. I have a Ryobi Router and the build quality seems good to me so I don't see why the drill and CS wont be. At least it isn't draper

Phil, is it for hobby DIY use? If so good value for money but the saw is heavy on battery use if its coming with the old yellow ones.
I have them so speaking from experience. The drills are very good.
Horses for courses as they say.

Regards Tom

It comes with 2x 1.7Ah Ni Cad batteries.

Are they any good for holding the power etc?

i didn't notice the NiCad bit. Personally I'd never buy NiCads again. All of my NiCad tools lasted no more than 2yrs.

Good for them money. I have two drills, the circular saw, jigsaw and a torch. 4 batteries as well. The drill would benefit from a better chuck. Available at Axminster for about £12(rohm). That makes it brilliant.

Phil, I just took a look couldn't see it at that price?

As said saw will drain batteries with use other than that its good stuff.
If you build up with kits they mostly come with a couple of spares.
There are Lithium-ion batteries available which are backwards compatible but they are expensive.

Hi Tom,

it's on the "Xtra deals" link on the main page.

Father Christmas gave me (with a bit of mouse activity by myself) the Ryobi lithium Ion starter pack with 18V hammer drill which cost £87 after I used a 10% voucher. I see today that the same pack is down to £79.95!! - an excellent route into the ryobi lithium world. I haven't looked today , but previously the drill in the saw/drill offer is not the hammer one, so buying both kits would still give useful extra tools and the better battery for the saw.

btw I wrapped my santa gift and got a neighbour to deliver it on Christmas morning saying it was left at the wrong house......marriage still intact....she had already seen the toolkit under the tree addressed to me from Screwfix :)

Also ask yourself if you really need a cordless circular saw? I've not used mine once other than to quickly hack a board up.

We have to justify purchases by using the tools........perhaps you have been over medicated

I must admit I rarely use mine. That said it was invaluable last year when I did the decking. I do use the jigsaw a lot though.

Great fan of the one + range. Started with 2 speed hammer with angle drill, bought over 2 years ago. Now have quite a few of the range, 8 batteries, none of which have failed. Four chargers (one is the car charger) Will in the new year buy one or two of the new batteries plus the charger they need. They should work well with the saw. As mentioned above the saw is a battery drainer.
