Dear All

I am going on holiday soon and want to take a really great book on the router and techniques etc.

I searched an online book store and found dozens to choose from but do you have any top recommendations?

Thanks
Phil

I have "Woodworking with the Router" by Bill Hylton and Fred Matlack. It has loads of information on Routers, bits, techniques etc. as well as plans and cutting lists for router tables (horizontal and vertical), jigs and a router-specific work bench. The book isn't exactly pocket sized for taking on holiday but it is great for anyone getting started with a router or looking to extend their skills.

ps. I built the router table and have recently used it as one of the main tools in making a kitchen full of doors and drawer fronts...it performed really well, even with a less than brilliant Performance Pro router in it.

George N has recommended a great book. It is one of the the GMC publications, and there are others that are also dedicated to routing.

Try this link:

alternatively, Patrick Spielman as produced a very good handbook for the router, but it might be a bit heavy to carry in hand luggage.

If you can find it, the Fine Woodworking book 'Router Methods of work' edited by Jim Richey is easily carried, and a good read.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I have just ordered, "Woodworking with the Router" by Bill Hylton and Fred Matlack. I will let you know how I get on with it. I will probably move onto one of the other books after this.

I've used routers for years, but pretty much self taught. Now after purchasing a new router I would like to expand my knowledge, learn new techniques and correct any bad habits that may have crept in.

Thanks again.
Regards

Phil
