Router bit to trim laminate flush

Hi

Just up to the stage of laminating the top of my router table. The top is 36mm thick MDF with an oak lipping all round. I need to contact adhesive the thin (0.5mm?) white laminate to both sides and then trim this flush with a bearing guided straight cutter.

Question is, will any straight cutter be fine. I have a cutter, 2 blades, straight blades but don't know if I need anything special. (spiral for eg) The laminate seems quite brittle and had a tendancy to want to crack as I was cutting the pieces.

Also, does it matter how much laminate I leave overhanging? Will it be a problem if there is too much?

This is what you want. It will trim the laminate flush.

If you have a block plane, you could plane it flush and get a nice finish. That's how people used to do it back in the 1970s when Formica was all the rage and people didn't have routers.

Paul, what are these times you talk of when people did not have routers?

Gary, yeah thats what I've got, different brands, just wanted to check I didn't need anything special for cutting laminate instead of wood. As I said, I'm a bit concerned how brittle it seems.
