What is it supposed to do? Remove old silicone sealant.

Their claims...unique patented tool; makes removing old sealant easy; works on all types of sealant. Silver award winner Hand Tools at DIY Show 2005.

What is it? Bit of hard blue plastic with a spike and a couple of wings nominally at 90 degrees. Cost £3.19

Actual performance. Utterly utterly useless. This is way way at the top of my pile of useless purchases. Perhaps there were only two entries in the Hand Tool section at the DIY Show and the Gold winner went to a handplane fitted with a paper blade. AVOID

No, no Roger - don't sit on the fence - tell us what you really think...

Thanks for the warning - will avoid...

Check out the literature:

The highly popular Strip-Out Tool, which won a silver award at the London DIY show, has continued to be a successful new product for Everbuild Building Products Ltd.

The tool is incredibly simple but its design and shape provides a really quick way to strip all types of sealant out of any 90° angle joint. Sales of the new product are climbing ever higher, with demand increasing due to high industry media coverage. The Strip-Out Tool, which is a unique patented tool, works on any type of sealant and is the ideal partner for use before applying Forever White silicone sealant.

The Strip-Out Tool is now being joined by its sister product: Sealant Smooth-Out Tool. The Smooth-Out tool is a unique tool that is ideal for smoothing out all sealant especially Forever White, after application – it creates a perfect seal every time. Even better, you will have no edge marks and no mess.

Both tools originate from North America where they have been very successful and clearly answered a real market need. The tools are the perfect add on sale to a purchase of Forever White, or any other Everbuild sealant. So now everybody can strip and smooth their way to perfect bathroom sealant.

Gonna review the 'Smooth-Out tool for us as well? :D

i bought the jml type thing which is in bright yellow, and actually does seem to work in most circumstances, except tightly behind bath taps in a
bathroom,if there is not too much room.

used it recently on a sink, and cleaned up quite well, but they all seem
to leave a bit of silicon.
what i did find worked on the sink was the four little right angled bits
of yellow rubbery stuff with various radii on them.

useless on the bath tap rear though, not the right kind of angles to use.
certainly useful along the long flat bits of your bath, and sold in at least
homebase for around a tenner.

you can't miss it in bright yellow, on a blue and yellow card.

unfortunately the big problem with siliconing is if you don't practice every
couple of days, it is difficult to get the curve right.

no roger it is actually kind of like a stanley blade holder,
but at the front is a hook shaped bent bit of metal that does
actually scrape away the silicon. as i said, along the long
side of a bath, or back of a sink i found it easily took
all the major silicon off quickly and cleanly.

i understand the mk 1 finger, but find that unless you do it
frequently, each time you come back, and do it, you make a mess the
first time.

anyway it did what i expected (what a surprise  )
so works for me, cause i am not sure how long it will be before
i have to re and de silicon again.

paul

have u tried this?
