I had a bit of a result myself on ebay today.

I thought that was quite a good price for an M950, and a friend tells me that from the fact it is white not blue and that the motor is enclosed its not more than about 2 years old max.

I didn't buy the chuck he was selling separately as my friend tells me it has very limited jaw range (found its 7mm from Axminster site).

Think I will go with the Axminster K8, I have the K10 on a Loan lathe I have at the moment and the spigot diameter on the std jaws is too big for small work.

I dont want to burst your bubble and i'm sure you will enjoy your new lathe but your freind is wrong - I bought an M900 8 years ago from axminster and it was white then (as was the M950 which i looked at that time)

still they are good little lathes so the age should be imaterial - the only consumable which might need replacing on an old one is the drive belt but these are cheap and easy to fit ( axminster sent me a free replacement the only time i needed one)

Good job I didn't see the vb36. I'd have bid on it at that price. Swmbo would have gone nuts though! She's still not happy about the graduate.

Blister, have you really bought another vb36? Wasn't one enough for you?
