Replacement Bosch batteries

Has anyone experience of the 'alternative' market for replacement batteries ? By that I mean batteries that aren't made by Bosch. 18v is what I'm after, Just wondering if they are cost-effective or die after a couple of charging cycles.

Also, keep an eye on the Bay, as BOSCH batteries commonly come up for sale - new and SH. I've bought a couple of new 14.4V HD batteries from it for £30ish each - much better than £80-90 from a dealer !. You can also get batteries re-celled, and they usually up the Ah rating as well. I can't remember the site, but will take a look through my internet favourites.

Can you get into the battery pack itself? If so, it's easy to re-cell them yourself. I've done so very successfully with my Turbovisor. Best part of £100 for a new battery pack, or change out of £15 for new cells from Maplins.

he biggest problem is getting into the plastic box. I have 3 DW battery packs that are on their last legs, so much so that I hardly every use them now. I can't open them up. I'm tempted to wreck one just to see how it goes together, then try to refurb the other two.

I had a couple of Metabo batteries recelled by these guys

They increased the ampage at the same time, work great and no problems now a few months later.

Otherwise I have picked up a few replacement Makita batteries on the Bay, not dead cheap but more realistic than catalogue prices.

Do these places put the same type of cell in that you had before i.e. Nimh for Nimh? Many places I've seen selling batteries don't state the type of cell so I assume they are using Nicad. Also many don't state the Ah.

(edit-just checked and both sites state cell type and Ah).

Never thought about using Maplins to recell the battery myself.

Hi,

I have recelled several batterys my self, it's hard to get into most glued up ones but with a bit of persuasion and a big screwdriver it is possible, use a hot air gun to straighten up the plastic and glue up with hot melt glue which it also good for sticking the cells stogether. Be carefull to avoid shorthing the pack when making it up you can gets loads of current flowing heating things up etc.

So which batteries would you use to recell a 14.4v 2.6Ah makita battery? I had a look on the maplins website and all the batteries seemed a little expensive considering I can buy a new battery for 35 quid.

You need to open the pack up and measure a cell to find out what size you need, its one of the tagged cells you need 4/5ths sub C is the usual one if I remember correctly, but check first.

I've got 3 or 4 DeWalt cordless drills. The drills are fine but the batteries are pretty well shot.

I asked about replacement batteries - they're £50 each!

However, my local power tools shop is selling new DeWalt drills in cases with 2 batteries each at £120 for 3 drills.

So I've just bought 3 new drills I don't need!

Stick the drills and cases on Ebay if you get a good price offer the 2nd highest bidder a second chance then go back to your tool store and buy some more stocking up on the batteries.
