Are they not for making a long parallel cut and can be used to reference from under the rail as asked for in the original question :unsure:
As you, I ask, square vs parallel. Not clear, even from Peter Millards youtube channel?

parallel - two pieces, just the same
square - I can make right angles at 90 degrees.

You would use them as a pair like this



They are not the type you fasten to a square for repeat cuts to length.
 
Cost? vs a few pieces of mdf| ply?

My original post said it was for "inspiration", it showed a way of referencing from underneath the track which was what the OP asked for. I thought perhaps the OP (or anyone else for that matter) might find it useful as it could easily be copied using MDF or similar. It's good to have the keeper piece under the rail as then the splinter strip is doing it's job.

Anyway I'm sure the OP will have their shelves cut up and on the wall by now anyway 😄
