Yikes - if a precision item has enough rust to need electrolysis, it might be rust free afterwards, but it won't be precision!

Yes, quite right Roger, it does only remove the rust.
I've used the process many times and it works really well. The iron oxide turns black and is then just brushed off.
It's also cheap if you already have the charger, most supermarkets sell washing soda.
