Any ideas ??
Glazing a broken window on the shed and and managed to smear some on the glass. #-o

Thanks Chris
Got most of it off that way, but it is the junk underneath that that is the problem.

I use a sharp chisel but make sure you don't go scratching the glass. Yesterday I had to repair window where some one seemed to have got a bit carried away sanding the beads- result is scratched glass all the way around. What ever method you use, just be careful it doesn't damage the surface ;)

And yet people are convinced that only a diamond will scratch glass...and that this is (therefore) a good test for a diamond.

Cant say Ive come across that before, you would have to well short of a few marbles to think only diamond would scratch it. Most hard materials will scratch glass.
It was long considered though that diamond was the hardest material and only a diamond could scratch another diamond , but harder materials are now around

Went over it again with my Cabinet scraper but there was still a fair bit to remove, so I wandered down to our local hardware shop to get some fine wire wool. but he talked me into buying some HG Silicon Seal remover, expensive, but it did the job.

Thanks for all your help

Good! Wire wool would have scratched the glass!

I use white spirits to remove silicone all the time, as said take the thick off with a glass scraper and then soften the remains with a bit of white spirit on a rag.

I fit quite a few PVCu windows so always have a bottle of PVC solvent cleaner handy which remove silicone from glass without problem.
