What other reason could you have for posting, if it's not yours ? If someone's already watching this on the forum, how EXACTLY have you helped ?

From the forum's rules 8.6
" Members sometimes feel that posting random links to eBay or similar sites may be of benefit to other members looking for a "bargain".
It is not in the interests of our membership to highlight items that some may already have on their watch list. Furthermore we have had instances in the past where members have spuriously drawn attention to their own listings. It is suggested that those wishing to find "bargains" do so themselves."

Whilst a blind eye is often turned to this rule, it is a rule you agreed to on joining and ought to be observed.
Decent kit turns up all the time on eBay and it would soon be tedious if people kept on posting every bit of kit on sale there here.

Making other aware, why is that a problem with you ?
What if someone here was already watching it and had a limited budget for such a lathe ?

If they were after a second hand lathe, don't you think there's a good chance they are already looking on ebay ?

I really don't want everyone else's idea of a 'bargain' being posted here all the time. It would get very messy.
If I want something from eBay I'll look myself and set up an automatic search to notify me of when something I might want gets listed.
If I miss something, and I'm sure I must have over the years, that's my bad planning.

In some contexts the ban is a little silly, particularly in the case of dealers selling multiple items on eBay like the Trend stones last year, but the mods are generally sensible enough to leave posts that clearly benefit members whilst not disadvantaging anyone. Overall there's a degree of sense to it when sensibly moderated.

I think it's a little different when it's a fixed buy it now price and there are multiple items available. I compare it to an everyday online shop then.

Single auctions are completely different. Having more viewers will generally only push the price up. Not a good thing if you've been lucky enough to spot it in the first place !
