Record Power CL1 motor problem

I have an old (blue) Record Power CL1 lathe.
I bought it second hand a few years ago and it has been great.
Until last week, that is. I was roughing out a substantial log when I smoked the start capacitor. This was replaced and all was fine for a short while, probably around 3-4 hours working time over a week. This evening the lathe tripped out the rcd.
Any ideas if it might be another capacitor failure? (Cap. Wasn’t hot or showing signs of failure) or could it be the motor or switch?
Any help would be gratefully received

It's unlikely the capacitor failure would take out the RCD. This may be an indication of an insulation failure in the motor (or elsewhere). One possible scenario is that the motor is on its way out and drawing too much current, which is why the original capacitor failed.

I assumed that as it may well be the original motor and therefore 15+ years old it was probably on its way out.
Would You suggest an overhaul or a replacement?

There are companies who will repair / refurbish the motor but it may be more cost effective just to buy a replacement. It's probably best to get someone to test the motor before deciding on a course of action.

One of the problems you may have is to find a motor with an imperial size shaft? I changed by blue CL1 motor about 10 or so years back and I fitted a 3ø jobbie. I haven't looked back.

I got my kit from this lot and they were very helpful and took a while though to find an Imperial sized motor. They also shipped it over to France where I was living at the time.

I called a company in Cambridge today, They want £32.50 + vat just to look at it!!!!
Also called Record Power. A replacement from Them is around £90 inc.p&p so that looks like the obvious route. However I’ll try the company You suggested 1st as Record Power don’t have any in until the end of Jan.
