Doh. Bought a lovely little 43 with a full set of cutters but it's missing the short fence bars (eh, I can live without those) and the depth stop (ah, fudge).
Apart from the 040 and 044 depth stops which are supposed to be interchangeable, does anyone know where you can either buy replacement depth stops for the 43 or what other planes you can nick a depth stop off and have it fit?
Thanks....

I have a rapier 043 and mine is also missing the depth stop, I just use the stop from my 044. I did once fine one on ebay but they wanted more than I paid for the plane.

Good luck.

Matt

I have made one from silver steel and some stainless steel.
You need to file a shoulder on the bar drill a hole and countersink it slightly them rivet the bar over.

Pete

I'm not as upmarket as Pete but I made a perfectly functional one from mild steel. It's really not hard to do.

Same as Pete. File a shoulder on the rod. Open out the underside of the hole in the plate with a countersink or reamer. Assemble, rivet, file flush.

Here are a couple of photos of the genuine article. It looks like it was made by the method described by Pete and Andy.

The sole measures 2 1/2" x 1/2" x 1/16". The post is 1" long, 7/32" diameter and its centre line is 3/4" from one end of the sole.

Very nicely photographed sir, and very useful info.
