Hi there and thanks for allowing me to join. I've just restored my first piece of furniture, a (possibly Edwardian) wash stand. When I purchased it, there was a gap between the doors and a gule mark the length of one door, which I take is an indication there was a strip of wood which overlapped the two doors. Does anyone know where I can buy half a metre of, say, 30mm wide, 3mm or 4mm thick oak?. I don't have any workshop tools, but guess if I could only buy a piece that's wider, I could clamp it in a bench and use a chisel to 'cut' it to a rough size and then use an electric sander with very coarse sandpaper to get it to the right size.

Thanks!

You can get what’s called strip wood from most big diy stores - wickes bnq etc Some also sell strips of hardwood. EBay also have multiple sellers offering off cuts of all dimensions and species which are not that expensive. Worth a look .
