Over the years I've had quite a few of the 500W halogen PIR security lights from various sources / manufacturers.

They never seem to last that long .. I've had them last from a few months to a couple of years max.

Can anyone recommend a reliable and long lasting light (with 2 PIR detectors that can be angled)?

I'm not fussed on halogen or LED - just needs to be powerful, reliable and long lasting.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I seem to have had better luck with lower powered ones - they don't run quite so hot, although LED's would be better. It might be worth using stand alone PIR's, it's easier to cover the areas you want and you sometimes benefit from the lights coming on before you are in the coverage area of a combined unit. It's more expensive, but possibly better.
Edit :- my bil worked for a company that stopped fitting them (even the expensive ones) as they were notoriously short lived. This wouldn't apply to LED's as they are cool (comparatively).

I have bought a few LED ones from LED HUT and have found them excellent well made dont have a double pir though.

I fitted a 30w LED PIR floodlight from LED Hut in January, and the PIR sensor packed up in August. It was replaced by LED Hut immediately and the LED has just quit after less than 3 months - so back it goes again!

Thanks all.

Chris - is there a particular brand at qvs that you have had good experience with in terms of Quality / reliability / longevity?

(In reference to floodlights)

We have had a twin PAR security light in operation for over 25 years. AFAIR I have only changed one lamp in all that time.
I can't find a brand name on the instuctions - 55812H Motion Sensor Twinspot Floodlight.
Also an ID - INE3IEGORLAC (the ' I 's could be ' 1 's possibly)

I seem to recall the Ring brand selling something similar.

No I have not purchased any floodlights from them, sorry, I just recommended them, as I have found them to be a good reliable supplier/wholesaler of all things electrical installation wise.

Unlike the big DIY sheds, they supply all of the nuts & bolts required for electrical installation/work, not just the shiny items.

I am sure they must have a range of good floodlights that are not halogen.

Take care.

Chris R.

PS. Just had a look on their site, they have a good range of LED floods, a number of them with a 5year warranty.

Timely thread as I'm thinking about a LV LED PIR flood to put down our bottom gate which, if I'm not careful, could turn into a flytipper's paradise. Old car battery with solar recharge is my current thinking.
