See my posting in the general chat forum. It's worth going through the Parcelforce website and costing Express48. Have just had some kitchen doors sent from Aberdeen to Telford for about 1/3 of the cost offered by the couriers I tried. Took them to the post office in the next village and they arrived well within the 48 hours with no hassle at all. A bit cheaper still if you can take it to a Parcelforce Depot.

Glad it worked for you, Gerry. Unfortunately, PF have rather blotted their copybook since my original post. Was waiting for delivery of saw track (Thanks PhilM, you went well beyond what was needed/expected on this) which PF promised for Wednesday. Stayed in all day, but nothing showed. Had already booked to be out yesterday, so left note asking for it to be left at the vet's just up the road. Still nothing when I went round to them this morning, so thinking two days late was a bit worrying, emailed the sender to check. Lo and behold, ten minutes later, our postie pulled up outside and struggled with a long thin parcel. The track. Apparently, buried somewhere in the small print is a disclaimer - they can't deliver north of Aberdeen within the 48 hours promised for more civilised places! According to postie, items get delivered to the depot in Aberdeen, then wait for a van to take it to the appropriate local sorting office (which only operates till 1:0pm) to be put on the local Royal Mail Peugot. So an additional 2 days is easily added on for stuff coming in. Yet they can get it our to the south in the scheduled time. Uh?

Lord knows what happens in the badlands north of Inverness!
