I'm another big fan of Unilite LED lights but these are a bit outside your budget so I'll offer just one thing that might be helpful.
The amount of light given out by any lamp is best measured in "lumens" these days and most lights quote an output in lumens.
An old 100W filament bulb output about 1600 lumens, so this is the amount of light you should be looking for. If you choose an LED light, about 16 Watts should be enough to make it.

Being rather old school myself, I am used to watts, and was just rekaying what most I looked at are advertised in, but take your point illuminating as it was ;-)

Know what you mean, whatnot....
Even domestic bulb ratings are confusing, particularly when the packaging claims equivalence to 40w or whatever. The "fancy ones" with artyfarty elements are the worst...some of 'em barely glow, let alone illuminate.
As a rule, we're always looking for "proper" equivalents to 60 watt jobs for the house....the lumens to look out for is around the 880 mark.

I have a dewalt 18v worklight, which is fine, but somehow rarely gets used, probably because the other option is a luceco rechargable number, build in battery, which sits in the kitchen and is always ready to grab, don't have to look out a seperate battery, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Luceco-Com...pcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

I seem to recall 'lasts for up to 10 hours' written somewhere on the packaging, it really doesn't, but if you really need to light an area for hours it's got to be worth running a cable in my opinion

A note on the LAP worklights, I've used those and found similar after a while the batteries are just junk, though I'd have to say they weren't mine and I suspect they were handled badly, allowed to get too cold in the winter etc.

Over the years, I have used and discarded quite a few different rechargeable torches, lamps and head torches - mostly for car restoration but also for loft access and getting around outside in the dark. My strong recommendation is for the othema type led strip head “torch”. It lasts about 4 hours between charges, is very comfortable and unlike many head torches, the light is exactly where you need it for close and more distant work. Many head torches seem good for camping but useless for anything else! I bought one of the othema type lights about 15 months ago and it is still going strong despite almost daily use.

Good luck

Dave

As mentioned , i purchased 3 , 1 for me and a couple of xmas presents - NOT used for any DIY
good to know they last 4 hours and still working for you

Okay just to update, I was down screwfix earlier to pick up their rechargeable lamp as recommended by a couple of replies

<https://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-rech...1ocYOFp_1dkXCeUWn5xoCCVcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds>

First I need my eyes testing, I was looking for something around the 100watt area, but found this one is just 10w (or 1000 lumins whatever they are ;- )

It seems fairly robust compared to some I have seen, apart from the need of a washer to fix the main lamp to the base its simple to assemble, now charged up and ready to go. I may need more weetabix of a morning as the adjusting knobs either side were extremely tight to get undone at first

However its fairly bright and will try it out for a bit and see how it goes, thank you for all the replies, I get the point re head torches and how good or bad they are but its just not of use in my case, I have head torches, I wanted something to flood the area so I can see the situation (in say an unlit loft)

One particular downside to head torches is when taking photos, something I find I am doing far more these days as its easy to adjust & blow up on a computer, which saves my weary eyes ;-)

Does anyone have a recomendation for a rechargeable work light, as I get older my eyes are not what they once were and need all the help I can get ;-)

So am looking for a rechargeable work light, around 100w if possible, I have looked at many online but the reviews are pretty dire, poor quality, don't hold charge or won't charge etc etc

Just wondered if anyone could recommend one, hopefully not to expensive £20 to £40
