Rattled

Well had a great-grandson last week so made him his first piece of wood related items. Made from cherry and highlighted with American black walnut finished with Danish oil.

Congratulations! on both the GGS and the rattle - great form and finish, and looks like it could be handed down through the generations.

fwiw, seems a good idea not to use nut oils just in case there is an allergy. I've seen Olive and Sunflower oils used.

Haven't used it yet but I got some paints and varnish brand name of Marabu Decorlack. EU approved for babes, saliva resistant.

Most companies such as Chestnut http://www.chestnutproducts.co.uk/ have there finishes tested so that they conform to EN71 which means they are toy safe. Providing this is on the can most finishes are OK.
