Hi. Can anyone help.
I have a 6inch random orbital sander air type, Can anyone give me some advice
On the smallest quietest compressor to operate the sander efficiently. Thanks everyone.

Does the sander have a data plate on it? That will tell you the air requirements. These form the basis of specifying a compressor.

If it has no plate, find someone selling a comparable item and obtain the figures from there.

It will depend somewhat on the air sander you have. My Dynabrade uses just about all the air my 5hp, 2 stage, 175psi, 80 gal tank produces. https://www17.dynabrade.com/get-manual.php?c=PD14.22R If you go to the bottom of the Machine Specification table on the last page you'll see what they require. Air Flow Rate 16 SCFM (450 LPM) Air Pressure 90 PSIG (6.2 Bar)

The Mirka is about the same. https://www.leevalley.com/en-ca/sho...s-6-pneumatic-sander-2-5mm-orbit?item=08K2041 "requiring 17 cfm of air at pressure up 90 psi."

Hose size comes into play as the smaller diameter hoses restrict the flow.

For a home shop it often makes sense to use an electric sander unless you already have the air sander, even then....

Thanks for the info. Mines a dynobrade.,so I'll have to invest in a electric one suggestions welcome. Thanks again.

Festool and Mirka make great sanders, but they are expensive not everyone is a fan of the paddle switch on the Mirka. I spent ages researching a sander and got the Bosch GET 75-150 called GET 75-6N in the US and it's great with incredible dust collection, I've got the 125mm 12v Bosch as a finishing sander and its great too. 3 year warranty and Bosch have a free battery offer on at the moment.
