Got a few covers to make-up and I'm sure that somethings going to go wrong... never made any before and a bit worried about how the heat will effect the wood (Chestnut - very old and seasoned to the max)

Heres the simple design

Started on the face-frames and got them all joined-up nicely (I think?)

I used metal dowels to fix the M/Ts' together (I like using these as you can remove the clamps once punched in)

But unfortunately they are very heavy and I need to move them 1 by 1 to the workbench

Anyway, day 1 and the f/frames are made-up....

Any insight on the do's and don'ts will be very welcomed..

Cheers Russ.

Looking good thus far! Never made any rad covers so I cant offer you any advice I'm afraid.

How are you going to fit the uprights in between the legs?

Good Spot!! Think I'll fit them to the inside of the frame using a half lap joint... but looking for ideas.

Cheers Russ

Erm, wouldn't you have been better off M and T ing them before fixing the frame together?

As it is a half lap would probly work quite well.

Chestnut? Blimey, they will be the best rad covers I ever saw.

I have been making rad covers for years, usually for carehomes, these will look good but will still show alot of the rad, you an get rad mesh on Ebay to hide them. It is stapled on the interior.

I'm glad to see you used the star dowels on the back and not the front! :D For a second there i thought.........

Mortice and tennons would have been best for the uprights, however, seeing as you wont see the back, just half lapping over the rails will be fine and much faster, using a spacer block for even gaps and a nail gun.

I would clean up all the inside edges before you fir the uprights though.

So far looking good!
