I started this yesterday morning and got it finished today. I shall deliver it at the end of the week to make sure the primer is fully dry.

Looks good Mailee.

Looking at the photograph brought an idea to mind.

If you get a job to build a wooden mantle replacement in the future would it not be possible to construct a surround that goes over the top of an original fireplace and save the work of having to remove the first one?

Looks great - what type of wood would you recommend for a radiator cover? Or is MDF best, considering the heat issues?

It will be fixed to the wall with a French cleat. Not sure about the mantle Woody, I think it would have to be quite wide on the uprights to cover it plus the thickness of the timber. It could work if the fire place is a large one I suppose. I think a rad cover is best in MDF due to the heat but I have seen ones made in 'real' wood too.

I got the rad cover fitted this morning. Customer was over the moon with it I am glad to say, (more importantly his wife was delighted with it)

Turned out to be an easy fit as I had already cut out the skirting profile and there were no pipes to cut around. :D
