Not sure if that is the general name for these squares, but what I'm referring to is something like this

That one has poor reviews, and the ones on ebay seem far too cheap to be accurate.

I see them a lot in American woodworking shows ando they seem very useful

what are you wanting to use it for? I have a few different things, but the starter combination square is by far the most useful.

i got the one with a centre finder, which i use for marking up for turning, and a protractor which i don't use often. may be available cheaper as just the square head and ruler.

If you are looking for good squares I find engineers squares to be the best http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Engineers-4-P ... 0562878121

Have you bought those specific ones from that seller?
They look very cheap.
If you can confirm they are accurate I may buy some for my son.

I have one 6" of a good make that I have had checked at work ( we work in micro gnats ) so I know it's bang on. I never use it for anything other than checking my other cheaper squares.

How about this

Good for general joinery but maybe not accurate enough for cabinetry

My advice is DON'T buy a cheap square for accurate woodworking. In my experience most of them are not sufficiently accurate or robust.

I have a Swanson speed square with a pattern like the OP is after. It is excellent and bang on square according to my engineers squares (M&W and R&C). I got mine used and have not seen them for sale in the UK.

I have the 12" version but other than that the one alexfn linked to looks similar to the one I have.
