At work we are going to have a quiz night and as most staff that work there are brainy I have volunteered to organise the questions, so far so good but would like to include a who am I question or two.
I was wondering if any one could help out here.
Or if anyone has a good question that I could include let me know.
I will have to say this bunch are a bit brainy.
I will need 50+ questions some on art, books, and 2008.
I have got some off the internet but will have to wave through them.
Merry Christmas
Reg

Name three sports where all the competitors go backwards from start to finish?

Answers, 1 Rowing, 2 Swimming, and 3 which most people never think of "Tug of War"

This is getting good.
Please keep them coming.
As this will be a wine and nibbles night can we have one or two on food and wine and more on books as we are in a library.
Well done all of you, I can always rely on this forum.
I could take some wood peaces in for identifying, what do you think?

If you are going to take timber in for people to identify, and it is for the general populous (i.e. NOT woodies) then I would stick to native trees, and have leaves/seeds with them - more people will be able to recognise an acorn or oak leaf than a piece of oak.
I always deem a good quiz to be one where nobody gets 100%,and nobody gets less than 50%

Andrew

How about printing a map of Africa with the country borders shown, but no names, and get them to try and fill the country names in. That could sit on the table for the entire evening, and be collected in with the last set of questions. Depending on how you count, there are 52 to 54 countries in Africa (despite what Sarah Palin thinks).....but I doubt if anyone will get more than 20 right.

Not surprised they rarely get it right Dan, it's difficult with the map in front of you. It's definitely a question you either know or don't know!

I did a job a last year for a couple of real brainbox anorak types for whom the highlight of the year is setting the questions at the quiz night at their local school.

A friend of mine sends his kids to the same school. He tells me it is hilarious.

This couple's apparant aim is to set a quiz to which no-one manages to answer any of the questions. The lower the scores the happier they are and the cleverer they are able to show themselves to be.

At least that's what they believe.

In fact, everyone thinks they're sad tw@ts!

I think I would agree with the majority. A pub quiz is meant to be entertainment, not an exam. Our local format is for 30 questions and we try to make it so that the winners get 23 - 25 out of 30, and for everyone to get over 15 - after all, the aim is to attract trade to the pub and not to alienate the clientele by making them feel like idiots. The winning score for the quiz I posted above was 23, which was a bit on the low side.

As a suggestion for quiz question, you might Google Issac Asimov's Super Quiz. It is printed in the daily paper here. When we find a free newspaper laying on a table in the hospital's employee cafeteria we, the regular group of guys that have break together, have a quiz.

I usually end up reading them. They think it's because I kow all the answers but really it's because I rarely know them.
