I have to say, it would be a shame to make this sort of thing with automation! it will be another element of craft skill that will disappear.

I thought the same some years ago but on a large quantity what it does it takes away some of the monotonous work.

I totally agree. I love to carve something different and interesting but earning peanuts and getting bored doesn't do it for me!

I get your points, perhaps the question is if you can't deal with the repetition or earning peanuts, don't take the job, a lot of what we do as woodworkers is repetition, personally I'm always thankful I have the work, and just get on with it.
